Shop Local: 5 Local Markets for Groceries

Shopping local is not only the sustainable thing to do, but also the socially-responsible thing to do.

Shopping local:

  • SUPPORTS YOUR HEALTH – The shorter the time between the farm and your table, the less likely it is that nutrients will be lost from fresh food.
  • SUPPORTS COMMUNITY GROUPS – Studies show local non-profits receive up to 250% more support from small business than big business.
  • KEEPS OUR COMMUNITY UNIQUE – What makes Cocoa Beach incredible is NOT the number of chains and big box stores, it’s the unique and passion-driven local businesses.
  • REDUCES ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT- Local products use a smaller carbon footprint to enter your home.

  • ENCOURAGES LOCAL PROSPERITY – Economic research shows that entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their local character.

Publix Closing

If you haven’t  heard: The Publix located in the Banana River Square shopping center is scheduled to be razed and reconstructed to reflect modern design and architecture. Demolition is expected to begin after Labor Day. The renovation should be finished within a year and the store will NOT be open during construction.

Beach Community AGAINST Plastic Bags

As a beach community, with a nearby ocean that needs our protection we should be all for the restriction of plastic bags. We should be bringing our own canvas bags and encourage small business to reward the use or charge a small fee for bags in order to encourage the movement. A Publix in Coral Gables, Miami, Florida has begun to phase out plastic bags. How incredible would it be if the new Cocoa Beach Publix were to be the first Florida Publix store that is completely plastic-bag free. Email lisa.roberts@publix.com to request that your Cocoa Beach store#107 reopen without plastic bags and that store #1098 located at 5645 N Atlantic Ave
Cocoa Beach, FL also phase out plastic!

And without further adieu here are…
